In the world of endurance sports, ultra swimmers are unique athletes. Although in ultra cycling and running you are up against the elements, few challenges can compare with the force of waves battering you for hours on end.

On this week’s show, we spotlight two of B.C.’s top ultra swimmers, both hailing from Penticton. Charlie Bourne captured the 12K title at the Skaha Lake Ultra, while Dave Michael topped the 18K field at the Big Effort Swim in Christina Lake. Two local athletes, two big wins but that’s probably where the similarities end. Charlie is a high school student, whereas Dave just sent his kids off to university this week. Hear their stories about what motivated them to attempt their big swims, how they prepared, and what their race days were like by pressing play below.
