Is that the sweet sound of a free fondo entry?

This could be you!

Fitspeek 71 is 30 minutes of premium unleaded motivation and information and FREE stuff. We kick off the program with our Fitflop and tell you about the hilarious sweat suits that were used as part of a weight loss program back in the days of the stegosaurus.

Actual size

The “meat” of this week’s podcast is that speedy ex-Chilliwackian now turned Vancouver Islander, Robert Johnson. Robert was our guest a few months back and has returned to tell us how his tri-season has been going so far. With a win at Westwood Lake, I’d have to say, pretty darn good!

No time to stop for water for this fast athlete.

And also, speaking of winning, we end of our show with the upcoming events calendar and with it your chance to win our third & final entry to the Prospera Fraser Valley Granfondo. Listen for the winning phrase and be the fourth person to e-mail kknnheinze@yahoo.com and it will be YOU that is fondo-ing for free in July.

Tri*Joy is more than a Facebook page, it’s the Fraser Valley’s local multisport coaching company. We’re based out of Mission and can meet with you, face to face to help you achieve your athletic goals. E-mail me at kknnheinze@yahoo.com to book your free consultation & goal setting session.

More than just a bike ride, it’s a positive spin

Coming up this Saturday (June 22) is the 3rd annual Positive Spin Cycle promoting mental health. Our Fitspeek Team will be out there with Kevin Watt serving as organizer, shepherd, cheerleader, and photographer. Kevin Heinze will serve as some sort of comedy relief on the 200 K ride.

Right about the moment when KW realizes that the yellow substance in his water bottle is an “all-natural” electrolyte replacement.

Even though on-line registration has closed, you can still be part of the event. KW just told me that registration will be available at the event site (Old Yale Brewing, in Chilliwack). Two words of advice BRING CASH! It’ll cost you $60.00 if you have a Cycling BC License & an extra $10.00 if you don’t. Of course you’ll want to have a few twenties in your wallet to enjoy some of the post-ride food and beverages. By riding in the event, you’ll also be entered to win a free entry into the upcoming Prospera Fraser Valley Granfondo.

Local Cycling Desperado flees to New Mexico

Tried to photoshop Thomas’s mug in with Merle & Willie…. well, that never happened.

DC Cycling’s first year pro from Chilliwack, Thomas Schellenberg is on the road and learning about life as a pro. Earlier this year he was racing in Arkansas, most recently in North Carolina, but our feature interview focuses on the time he spent at a high altitude training camp, as he puts it “somewhere in the middle of nowhere in New Mexico.”

Javelina intervals are know to raise your FTP by between 3 and 5 %, says Thomas Schellenberg.

Thomas tells us about his adventures on the road including his encounters with the wildlife of the American Southwest. You can hear all about that plus his reflections on the race he did down there, called the Tour of the Gila.

In addition to Thomas, we have the return of Zack Neufeld, in this week’s Between The Ears we hear more about the powerful effects that music can have on your training & racing. 20 minutes of inspirational Fitspeek floods your ears by pressing play below.
