Find out this week in Fitspeek 51! Valley Synergy 2018.

Usually Fitspeek features things like triathlon and swimming but this time we are featuring a sport that has been played by more Canadian children then those two sports EVER will be – DODGEBALL.
Coming up on Saturday November 24th at the Heritage Park Middle School Gymnasium is the 4th annual Mission Firefighter Movember Dodgeball Tournament.
In his Fitspeek debut, Platoon Captain Dave Taylor tells us about the history of the event in Mission, how you can sign up, and some advice on dodgeball training! Hear it all by pressing play below.
You can sign up as an individual or as a team of 6 or 8 at http://www.eventbrite.ca

Or you can e-mail Dave at dtaylor@mission.ca
If you’ve ever had a crappy race or workout, chances are, if you think about why things went wrong, you’ll learn a lot more and improve as an athlete more, than if things went wonderfully and you don’t give your race or workout a second thought.
Our brains are hardwired to focus on the negative experiences that we have, it’s a survival thing!
In Fitspeek 49 Zack Neufeld presents part two of Sewing Seeds of Victory From Ashes of Defeat. The people to your right are great examples of that concept.
Also in this week’s Fitspeek, we get an update from first time Ironman athlete Jen Burns.
She’ll tell us about how her body is adapting to her new weightlifting routine and how the results are showing up in the swimming pool.
And a guy who used to be seen in swimming pools in Maple Ridge, Kevin Watt, makes his return to Fitspeek after a few weeks off. He jumps right into action, probing Zack Neufeld about his heartening performance at the Valley Vertikiller. Judging from the look on Zack’s face here,
I’d say that the thoughts of Carl Rogers and Chris McCormack are propelling him toward a podium finish.
You can hear it all right now in rich high-definition sound by pressing play below.
And when you are ready to start planning for your next season of athletic awesomeness, whether that is the Run For Water, The Positive Spin Ride for Mental Health Awareness, or the Rattlesnake Ultra Swim, the coaches at Tri*Joy can help you. With a low client to coach ratio, we can give you the attention that the other guys can’t. E-mail kknnheinze@yahoo.com to set up an in-person consultation session to kick start your journey to the finish line!
In this Fitspeek Express interview, I speak with Alistair Kealty, he is the race director of the Mission Half Marathon. The race is in its second year and will be held at 11 on Saturday October 27. In the interview we talk about a few of the changes that he has made this year, Lionel Sanders, and pizza!
You can enter the race at http://www.missionhalf.com

We are fortunate in the Fraser Valley to have both the weather and the geography to participate in our chosen outdoor pursuits year-round. We are also fortunate to have well-organized clubs and training groups to belong to for motivation and social connection.

We here at Fitspeek are in the process of stirring the endorphin pot by putting together Valley Synergy 2018 a podcast/meeting of the folks from all the local athletic groups including the Fraser Valley Trail Runners, Phoenix Velo Training Group, Fraser Valley Mountain Biking Association, and the Abbotsford Triathlon Club.

Each club brings with it, its own events, skills, and attitudes. Things are in the planning stage right now, so stay tuned! BTW: Thanks Leigh Ann P for the idea!

Unless your name is Craig Premack you’ve probably never seen more than a dozen or so sunrises while riding your bike, and doing your best to dodge owls while riding through Saskatchewan, Vancouver Island, or Finland. Come to think of it, Craig, although he has done Paris – Brest, has probably never came face to face with reindeer.
For that, and many more reasons that you will soon find out, we present thirty minutes with author and soon to be world 24 hour cycling time trial participant Meaghan Hakinin.
Fitspeek 48 also has race results from the Cultus Lake Trail races and the Athletes in Kind 5k and 10k events held in Maple Ridge.
We end off the show with some advice on how to maintain or increase your memory. As a Fitspeek listener, you are already doing a lot of the key things, I’ll give you a bit more information on the Fit Tip of The Week. Hear it all by pressing play right below this line!
And don’t forget Tri*Joy} The Spirit of Multisport can get you to the finish line of your event, whether that’s the Fraser Valley Granfondo, the Valley Vertikiller, or the Victoria 70.3 triathlon. We offer what the big guys can’t, face to face consultations and regular progress assessments are what make Tri*Joy the wise choice for your athletic path. Email kknnheinze@yahoo.com for your free consultation and goal-setting session.
No Zack and Kevin H are not experimenting with acid but what they are doing is exploring the mental side to help you achieve your best performance, come race day.

First off in Between The Ears, they take a page out of the Chris McCormack book, I’m Here to Win to examine what it means to truly experience success or failure in a race. Later on in the podcast, Vancouver pro triathlete, Rachel McBride joins Kevin Heinze in an interview.

The topics range from silly to serious and we get to learn a few mental tricks that Rachel is planning to use at her very first Ironman World Championships.
Start your Thanksgiving weekend with some food for thought with Fitspeek. Hear it now by pressing play below.
And when that turkey is all digested and you are ready to jump into your first triathlon, let Tri*Joy help you get to the finish line. With a low client to athlete ratio they can give you the time you deserve. For a free in-person consultation e-mail kknnheinze@yahoo.com
Fitspeek’s Kevin Watt is not only our social media shout-out guy, he is also responsible for spreading our podcast via Instagram. Through the connections he’s made, he has Fitspeek listeners in New York City and in Washington, DC. One of the folks is Diego Paul Yepez.

Diego is an aspiring professional cyclist and in our mini podcast, KW will explain what Diego is doing this Thanksgiving weekend. Press the play button to find out!
Kevin Watt has also been doing some research and has done a great interview, which we are excited about sharing with you in a couple of weeks.
Speaking of excitement, what could be more thrilling than 30 minutes in the ring with a purple tiger?

Fitspeek’s Kevin Heinze goes head to head in a no-holds barred interview with Vancouver Pro-Triathlete (among other talents) Rachel McBride. She’s one of Canada’s big hopes at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii on October 13th. Kevin and Rachel rap about her ummm dynamic season so far and her preparation for her Kona debut. Look for that podcast coming your way early next week.
Fitspeek 46 picks up where Fitspeek 45 left off, in a room full of Ironman finishers and Jen Burns. In this laugh and wisdom packed 45 minutes you’ll glean pearls of wisdom and silliness as our Iron Panel of Zack Neufeld, Kevin Watt, Leigh Ann Parker, Elise Reeh, and myself, answer a series of tough and revealing questions.

Also in this week’s Fitspeek, after a few weeks off, KW returns with social media shout outs, we have race results from Cultus Lake, and also the upcoming events schedule. Prepare for hilarity and press play below
And if you are like Jen and want to do your first Ironman, or your first marathon, fondo, or triathlon, we at Tri*Joy can help you out. We offer in-person consultations, effective and motivating training plans, and regular progress assessments, e-mail kknnheinze@yahoo.com to book a time for a consultation.

Just like previous Fitspeek guest Dave Matheson, Abbotsford’s Jen Burns wasn’t much into regular sports when she was in high school. Instead, she focused on high level dance for over a decade.
Now, a few years later Jen is getting into endurance sports in a big way. She had a great performance at the Whistler Half Ironman race in July and was so inspired that she signed up for the full Ironman for 2019. In our Fitspeek interview we find out about her hopes, plans, and fears for the year ahead.
Also in Fitspeek 45, we help you overcome pain and adversity in your next race by using mental file folders. Find out more on Zack Neufeld’s Between The Ears.
If you are ready to jump into the water for your first, or fastest triathlon, Tri*Joy can help you with one on one consultations, effective training programs, and regular progress assessments. E-mail kknnheinze@yahoo.com to get things started.
